Pooh-Pooh Diaries

Last Monday I had to take my cat Pooh-Pooh to the vet.

I'm feeling much reassured now, but it has been a long crazy week.

She has been having gastrointestinal problems,

missing the litter box and having accidents all over the place... 

Between the constant cleaning and caring for her

didn't had much time left.

She is getting better now

and hopefully soon will be able to play everywhere as usual.

I hope that both of us will be back to our normal routines very soon.

Till then, I'll be seing you!

Na passada segunda feira tive de levar a minha gata Pooh-Pooh ao veterinario.

Embora esteja mais descansada agora, tem sido uma semana comprida e maluca.

Ela tem estado com problemas gastrointestinais e tem tido acidentes por todo o lado...

Entre o limpar constantemente e tratar dela

nao tenho tido tempo de sobra.

Mas agora ela parece estar melhor

e esperemos que em breve possa voltar a brincar por toda a casa.

Esperemos tambem que em breve tanto ela como eu possamos voltar as nossas rotinas habituais.

UFO's and a Lilac Fence Rail Quilt

I've finally finished the lilac fence rail quilt top

that had been pushed around so many times

and then finally just laid on top

of the drawers cabinet

for so long!

Finalmente acabei a manta de retalhos lilas feita com fence rail blocks (retalhos cosidos a maquina e que formam um padrao conhecido como cerca ou vedacao).

Este quilt, ou manta de retalhos,  tem sido empurrado dum sitio para o outro e finalmente acabou por ficar pousado durante meses em cima do armario.

It was upgraded from a UFO to a fairly nice finished quilt!
Foi promovido de UFO para uma bonita manta de retalhos!

So, what's up with UFO's...?
O que e um UFO...?

In my craft's room there's a lot of UFO's
(=Un Finished Objects).
No meu atelier ha muitos UFO's
(ou OPA'S=Objectos Por Acabar).

Since in a while,
when I'm looking for something in the drawers,

revolving inside the containers on the shelves,

emptying my project fabric baskets,

I find another one!
De vez em quando
quando estou a procura de alguma coisa nas gavetas,
ou revolvendo o interior das caixas que estao nas prateleiras,
ou quando esvazio os meus cestos de projectos para acabar,
la encontro mais um!

In this Lilac Fence Rail quilt case
the reason for it to have became an UFO
was because it is difficult
to make available enough room floor space
to cut out the backing and the batting
and to machine quilt everything together,
because of the quilt size!
A razao para esta manta de retalhos lilas se ter tornado num UFO (ou OPA)
foi por ser muito complicado disponibilizar suficiente espaco livre no chao
para cortar o tecido para a parte detras da manta e para o entremeio
(ou recheio como ja ouvi chamar em Portugal; trata-se de um material muito fofo que se coloca entre a manta de retalhos e o tecido que forma a parte detras da manta, e que e o que torna a manta confortavel e quente como um cobertor)
e acolchoar esta grande sanduiche na maquina de costura.

But since I've cleaned and cleared up my back covered deck
all this tasks became so very much easier!
Mas desde que limpei e arrumei a minha varanda todas estas tarefas se tornaram muito mais faceis!

And that's how I was able to finally finish my so late Lilac Fence Rail quilt!
E foi por isso que finalmente consegui acabar a manta de retalhos lilas!

A peek at my corner of the world

With temperatures reaching the high nineties, plus all the humidity,
there's not much I can do outside
without really risking a heat stroke...
Com a temperatura a ultrapassar os 30 graus, mais a humidade, e impossivel estar la fora...

But still, I felt I needed to be out a little bit everyday.
Mas mesmo com este calor
gosto de estar um pouco la fora todos os dias.

And that's why I've decided to make a  profit of what's already here
(tough I never had the chance to really appreciate it).
Entao decidi rentabilizar o que ja tinha
emnora nunca tenha tido a possibilidade de realmente poder gozar e apreciar.

As a matter of fact
my back covered deck
(I had it built for J years ago)
was so misused
that the cats were the only ones benefiting from it.
Para dizer a verdade
o varandim que eu tinha mandado construir para o J na parte de tras da casa
(aqui ha alguns anos atras)
estava tao mal aproveitado
que os gatos eram os unicos a tirar algum proveito.

After scrubbing and hosing everything down
I've put out most of my inside flower pots.
Depois de esfregar e lavar com a mangueira,
troxe ca para fora
os meus vasos de flores que estavam dentro de casa.

 I've re-poted some of the plants and bought some new annuals.
Replantei alguns vasos e comprei algumas flores anuais. 

I'm now able to enjoy and relax outside.
Agora posso apreciar e relaxar la fora.

I've also fixed a spot to sew or knit outside

whenever I feel like it.

Tambem arranjei as coisas de modo que

posso coser ou tricotar la fora sempre que me apeteca.

A trip to Gatlinburg

Past Saturday, June 4th,

I was invited by my sister-in-law to go to Gatlinburg,

at the verge of the Smokies.

No passado Sabado, 4 de Junho,

a minha cunhada convidou-me para ir com ela a Gatlinburg,

no sope das Smokies.

Gatlinburg is a very famous touristic city resort

(probably the most famous in East Tennessee)

and borders the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Ober Gatlinburg

(sign above) is a ski resort and amusement park.

Gatlinburg e uma cidadezinha turistica muito famosa no Tennessee oriental

e e uma das portas de entrada para o parque nacional das Great Smoky Mountains.

e uma estancia de ski e parque de diversoes.

 Of course I accepted and there you went,

direct to the Norton Show.

Claro que aceitei e la fomos nos,

direitas ao Norton Show.

It was a show about jewelry, purses, bags and apparel,

open to the trade only.

E um evento de joalharia, malas e moda,

aberto apenas a comerciantes.

I went as a guest

(a paying guest should I say, $20.00 had to be rendered to gain entrance).

Eu fui como convidada

(mas tive de pagar $20.00 dolares para entrar).

I have to say tough, it was well worthy.

Mas devo dizer que valeu bem a pena.

I enjoyed it, a lot!

Gostei imenso!

And I also spent a bit of money,

but again, it was well worthy!

Gastei algum dinheiro

mas (de novo) valeu a pena!

For lunch we went to a sports grill bar nearby,

and had fish and chips

and a nice cold draft beer!

Para almocar fomos a um sports bar de grelhados,

e comemos peixe com batatas fritas

e uma bela imperial!

It was a really pleasant day

and I allowed my mind to drift far far away,

even if just for a few moments!

Foi um dia muito agradavel

e por alguns momentos

deixei os meus pensamentos levarem-me para bem longe.

Sand dollar

When my brother and sister-in-laws

came back from the beach
a couple weeks ago,
they brought me a few souvenirs.
Quando os meus cunhados
voltaram da praia ha duas semanas atras,
trouxeram-me algumas recordacoes.

Amid them a star fish and a couple of sand dollars.

Entre elas uma estrela do mar e dois sand dollars (bolachas da praia).

I had heard about sand dollars,

but not the legend surrounding it.

Eu ja tinha ouvido falar de bolachas da praia
mas nunca tinha ouvido acerca da lenda.

The legend compares the sand dollar to a symbol of Jesus live,
with the shell holes compared to the nail holes on Jesus and so on...
A lenda faz da bolacha da praia um simbolo da vida de Jesus,
com os buracos na concha sendo comparados
as chagas de Cristo e por ai adiante...

And because I had never seen a sand dollar
I thought it would be interesting to share it with you.
E porque eu nunca tinha visto uma bolacha da praia
pensei que seria interessante compartilhar aqui convosco.
