A cat in a bag...?

No, not really...

What I'm sharing with you today

is a little bit of my (pictorial) story with my cat...

Most of all, it's about my tribute to my little fury friend,

who (literally) helped mend my broken heart

and has been my emotional support and best companion since J's death.

Não, não verdadeiramente...
O que eu gostaria de partilhar hoje convosco
é um pouco da minha história (pictografica) com a minha gata...
Acima de tudo, é um tributo à minha amiga peludinha,
que (literalmente) ajudou a remendar o meu coração
e tem sido o meu suporte emocional e a melhor companheira desde a morte do J.

Don't get me wrong.

My family and my friends have been really supportive

for all those tremendous years of J's illness and passing,

not to mention all the really bad situations
I had to endure here along that path.

Do you know the saying that 's in moments of tragedy you really get to know who's really your friend...?, well, it is absolutely true.

Many years of total physical and emotional solitude,

with not much sympathy or help around,

I had to struggle to keep my sanity.
Não interpretem erradamente.
A minha família e os meus amigos têm-me apoiado muito
durante os anos terríveis da doença do J e da sua morte,
já para não falar de todas as horríveis situações que aqui tive de enfrentar
completamente sózinha durante esse percurso.
Conhecem o ditado que diz que é nos momentos de tragédia
que se ficam a conhecer os verdadeiros amigos...?,
pois é absolutamente verdadeiro.
Foram muitos anos de completa solidão física e emocional,
e sem muito simpatia ou ajuda por perto tive de me esforçar para manter a sanidade.

One of this blog purpose has been helping me

overcoming all those not so good circumstances of my life.

I think Pooh-Pooh has the same purpose

and I'm always amazed with her sense of loyalty,

dedication and friendship.
Um dos objectivos deste blog tem sido ajudar-me
a ultrapassar todas essas menos boas circunstâncias da minha vida.
Acho que a Pooh-Pooh tem o mesmo objectivo,
e fico pasmada com o seu sentido de lealdade, dedicação e amizade.

Yeah, I'm talking about Pooh-Pooh the cat... I don't think she would be more of a friend even if she was a dog.

That's why this blog post is dedicated to her.

To honour my friend pet and to show off the little brat she is,

I made her a scrapbook, which I'm sharing with you all.
Sim, estou a falar da Pooh-Pooh, a gata... não acho que ela poderia ser mais amiga
mesmo que fosse um cão.
É por isso que este post lhe é dedicado.

The begining of a new year

I hope everyone had a nice new year begining.

I certainly did.

And on January the 2nd we had the first snow of this Winter

(it's already all gone now, but it was nice).

Espero que todos vós tenham tido um bom começo de ano.

Eu certamente que tive.

E no passado dia 2 de Janeiro tivemos a primeira neve deste Inverno

(já derreteu toda, mas foi bonito).

This year New Year was a special one, since I got to spend it on Skype

with a dear friend back in Portugal.

I enjoyed it a lot,

and since Portugal is five hours ahead of us,

I can say I was in 2012 much earlier then everyone else here in Tennessee.

I will not get in details

(it feels kinda embarassing),

but while Skyping with my friend I had a little accident on my laptop,

and the keyboard got kinda wacked... so, I had to buy a wireless keyboard (which, by the way, works perfectly),

thus only now I'm able to post again.

That being said,

I also want to show you a terrific Christmas present my son,

daughter-in-law and grandson sent me.

Este ano o Ano Novo foi especial,

uma vez que o passei no Skype com uma querida amiga em Portugal.

Gostei muito, e uma vez que Portugal está cinco horas à nossa frente,

posso dizer que entrei em 2012 muito mais cedo que o resto do pessoal aqui no Tennessee.

Não vou entrar em detalhes

(porque é de certa forma embaraçoso),

mas enquanto estava no Skype com a minha amiga

tive um pequeno acidente com o laptop,

e o teclado ficou meio estragado...por isso tive de comprar um teclado sem fios

(que, já agora, trabalha perfeitamente),

e é por issso que só agora consigo voltar a publicar um post.

Tendo dito isto, quero mostrar-vos o bonito presente de Natal

que o meu filho, nora e neto me mandaram.

The rainbow of friendship

Yesterday I had a wonderful surprise,

the mail man brought me an unexpected gift from a dear friend.

Ontem tive uma óptima surpresa,

o carteiro trouxe-me um presente inesperado duma querida amiga.

It felt really good not because of the gift

but because of what the gift meant.

Soube mesmo bem não por causa do presente, mas pelo seu significado.

I know is difficult for foreign cultures to understand what saudades really mean..., but putting it this way may help:

Eu sei que é difícil culturas estrangeiras entenderem o significado de saudades...,

mas talvez ajude posto desta maneira:

she sent me the basics for a traditional Portuguese Christmas meal,

ela mandou-me o essencial para uma refeição tradicional de Natal,

little tokens from my beloved ocean,

pequenas lembranças do meu querido oceano,

shared sweet memories from some of my friend's personal life moments,

mas transformando o objecto em algo diferente sem o destruir,

enquanto que reciclar significa basicamente destruir uma coisa para a transformar noutra),

e o seu projecto de literacia é simplesmente fantástico

(assim como a sua paixão por literatura infantil)!

Felt Angry Birds

As we rapidly approach Christmas Eve

so do I try to rush and finish my last handmade gifts.

À medida que nos aproximamos da noite de Natal,

também eu tento despachar-me e acabar os meus

últimos presentes feitos à mao.

I had found the tutorial for these sweet crazy angry birds and immediately filed them under my to do list section of my brain.

And so, because I still had

to send a package to my sweet darling (grandson) in Portugal,

I rushed and made these pretties yesterday!

Tinha encontrado este tutorial/passo-a-passo que ensina a fazer estes engraçados e malucos angry birds e imediatamente o arquivei no meu cérebro na secção de coisas para fazer.

Por isso, e como ainda tinha de mandar uma encomenda para o meu fofinho (neto) em Portugal,

ontem apressei-me a fazer estas fofuras!

I hope he's going to like them.

Maybe I'll go ahead and make them all,

so sometime next year he'll have a good surprise!

I've been rushing to get things ready to go

(to the other side of the world).

Com o Natal a menos de duas semanas de distância, tenho estado a apressar-me para conseguir ter tudo pronto para mandar (para o outro lado do mundo).

I've went trough my cards, selecting the most precious ones

for friends and family:

fiz uma escolha dos meus cartões mais bonitos

para mandar aos amigos e à família:

I asked her.

Definitely she has an attitude problem!

Anyway... after the cards,

I went and finished some small items that needed to be finished

to be put into the package to ship.

De qualquer modo... depois dos cartões,

estive a terminar algumas coisitas

que tinham de ser acabadas antes de serem colocadas na caixa para enviar.

Regarding the little snowman with the earmuffs,

the credit goes for Artmelza,

whose directions and pattern I've followed,

though I've given it a different purpose (pencil holder).

Em relação ao pequeno boneco-de-neve com os tampões nos ouvidos,

o crédito é da Artmelza, cujas instruções e molde eu segui,

embora lhe tenha dado um objectivo diferente (uma caixa para lápis).

Tunisian Crochet Hobbes

When I asked my son what would my grandson like for Christmas,

he told me the little one is an enthusiastic fan of Calvin & Hobbes comics,

and that he would love a big stuffed Hobbes.

Quando perguntei ao meu filho o que é que o meu neto gostaria para o Natal,

ele respondeu-me que o pequenino é um fã entusiástico da banda desenhada Calvin & Hobbes,

e que adoraria ter um grande Hobbes de peluche.

I do confess the first thing I did was to go online and search for one to buy.

Confesso que a primeira coisa que fiz foi ir online e procurar por um para comprar.

But after having found a bunch of basically nothing I decided I would go for it.

I went with Tunisian crochet stitch

because it gives me a much more sturdy type of fabric

(my Oh La La Lolita Dolls are made with the same type of stitch)

and everything went pretty smooth.

Mas depois de ter encontrado basicamente nada decidi que iria tentar fazer um.

Resolvi-me pelo ponto de crochet Tunisino

porque proporciona um tipo de tecido muito mais resistente

(as minhas bonecas Oh La La Lolita Doll são feitas com o mesmo tipo de ponto)

e tudo correu muito bem.

For the face and nuzzle I experimented 2 or 3 different ways,

till I finally decided I liked the way it looked.

Para a cara e o focinho experimentei 2 ou 3 maneiras diferentes, até que finalmente me decidi pela que gostava mais.

I'm very happy with it, and I do hope my grandson will too.

Estou muito satisfeita com o modo como resultou, e espero que o meu neto também goste.

Meanwhile I'm keeping busy with the making of some more pretties

which hopefully will meet their destiny this Christmas!

Entretanto continuo ocupada fazendo mais coisas bonitas

Anatomy of a Crafters Fair

It's already December... I've been quite busy lately, with several things happening at the same time, thus the lack of blog posting.

Já estamos em Dezembro... tenho estado bastante ocupada e com diferentes coisas acontecendo ao mesmo tempo, dai não ter publicado no blog.

Yesterday I had another Quilter's Craft Fair, at another Senior Center.

There were much less sellers than last time and, of course, the fair taking place at a Senior Center, the potential buyers were almost all seniors.

And unfortunately these are difficult times for everyone and specially for those who are on a budget.

Tough initially the chances to have some buyers coming in seemed really slim,

it turned out that I made quite a few sales!

Ontem participei noutra venda de artesanato num outro Centro de Dia.

Havia muito menos vendedores desta vez, e claro que sendo um Centro de Dia para Idosos os potenciais clientes eram quase todos idosos.

Infelizmente estes tempos sãao dificeis para toda a gente, especialmente para aqueles limitados a uma pensão ou orçamento.

E embora inicialmente parecesse que havia poucas hipóteses de termos alguns clientes,

a verdade é que fiz bastantes vendas!

I think that the different outcome for me personally

is due to 2 different things:

first being that's December, Christmas is a coming, and people are trying to get their Christmas shopping done

(I almost sold out my Nordic ear warmers, and I kept hearing people referring grand daughters while buying them).

The other I think is due to a better display of my items,

my table seemed more organized

plus I've made small cards describing the items

or what they're used for: one single client bought six tawashi at once

(this time I had a card explaining that tawashi is Japanese for "dish scrubby").

Acho que o resultadoi foi diferente para mim pessoalmente especialmente devido a dois factores: primeiro porque estamos em Dezembro, o Natal está à porta

e as pessoas estão a tentar ultimar as compras de Natal

(vendi quase todos os meus “aconchegos de orelhas em estilo Nóordico“,

e as clientes estavam sempre a referir as netas ou sobrinhas quando os compravam).

O outro factor relaciona-se, penso eu, com uma melhor apresentação dos meus produtos,

a minha mesa estava melhor organizada e fiz cartões

para descrever cada produto e o seu uso: uma única cliente comprou-me seis tawashi duma só vez (desta vez eu tinha um cartão referindo que tawashi é a palavra japonesa para "esfregão para pratos").

Foi uma venda rentável e uma experiência de aprendizagem que resultou muito positiva!

Quilter's Craft Fair

As I've told you about,

yesterday was the Quilter's Craft Fair

at my local Senior Center.

Como vos tinha dito, ontem foi a Venda de Artesanato dos Quilters

do Centro de Idosos da minha comunidade.

I think it went rather well,

with different crafters showing and selling their crafts, mainly quilters, jewellery makers, sewing, knitting and crochet crafts, even some wood crafts and baskets.

You can see above as every body's rushing to ultimate everything

before the doors open to the public.

As expected, the fair was mainly visited by senior elements of the community.

The prices were quite accessible and I did alright,

not getting the riches I was hopping for (sights...),

but still I've sold quite a few items.

Bellow you can see my table and display.

Acho que correu bastante bem, com diferentes tipos de artesãos a mostrar e a vender as peças, principalmente quilters, artesãos de joalharia, peças de costura, de tricot e de crochet, até algumas peças em madeira e cestos de vime (ou de material similar ao vime).

Como podem ver acima, toda a gente estava ocupada com os últimos preparativos antes das portas abrirem ao público.

Como era esperado, os principais clientes eram todos cidadões seniores da comunidade

Os preços eram bastante acessíveis e eu não me dei mal, embora não tenha ficado rica (suspiros...), mas mesmo assim vendi bastantes peças.

Em baixo podem ver os artigos expostos na minha mesa.

For my next craft fair, I think I'll try to display differently,

maybe grouping similar items on a container,

and get identical containers for all the items,

for a more uniform presentation. What do you think, any suggestions?

My card board doesn't show on the pictures but I sold a few Xmas cards (I had like a big bulletin board, at the side of the table, that I've made, but forgot to take a picture), and by the comments I heard they were very well considered.

On the beginning of next month,

I might try another quilter's fair at another senior center.

Para a próxima feira de artesanato,

acho que vou dispôr as minhas peças de modo diferente,

talvez juntando artigos semelhantes num recipiente, e arranjar recipientes idênticos para todos os artigos, para uma disposição mais uniforme.

O quadro expositor dos meus cartões nao aparece nas fotos

mas também vendi alguns cartões de Natal

(forrei um grande placard de madeira para expôr os meus cartões, que estava colocado no chão na lateral da mesa, mas esqueci-me de tirar uma foto),

e pelos comentários que ouvi as pessoas gostaram bastante.

No início do próximo mês talvez participe noutra venda num outro centro de idosos.

First of all I want to apologize to all for the long absence and silence.

I'm back and hopefully on a more constant pace,

now that I finally have a new laptop and got it up and running smootly.
Antes de mais quero pedir desculpa pela longa ausência e silêncio.
Estou de volta e espero que com uma frequência mais constante,
agora que finalmente tenho um novo laptop e que o tenho a trabalhar em condições.

The truth is I got a virus on my computer earlier this month
that totally messed up everything

and I thought all was lost,

but it seems like some of my data will be able to be saved.

But right now I'm starting from ground zero on this new laptop

(and yeah!, this time I bought anti-virus protection!).
A verdade é que tive um vírus no meu computador no início do mês
que o arruinou completamente e pensei que tinha perdido tudo,
mas agora parece que alguns dos meus dados poderão ser salvos.
Mas de momento estou a começar do zero neste novo laptop
(e claro!, desta vez comprei um anti-vírus!).

a little bit of a tiny depression mood

plus the fact I've been busy getting ready

for tomorrow's Quilter Craft Fair at our local Senior Center,

those are the reasons for this absence from the blogging world.

Portuguese Green Soup aka Caldo Verde

My Portuguese Green Soup was always one of my husband's favourites.

O meu caldo verde era um dos pratos favoritos do meu marido.

Even if I cannot make a exact and true reproduction

of the Portuguese culinary trade mark Caldo verde,

I dare to say my own version of it comes out pretty close in taste and looks.

Ainda que não consiga imitar fielmente o tradicional caldo verde Português, atrevo-me a afirmar que a minha versão é muito parecida, tanto no paladar como no aspecto.

The real thing is made out with Portuguese cabbage, very finely shredded,

and it takes Portuguese chouriço slices

(not to be mistaken with the chorizo, Mexican style,

that sometimes I see at the grocery store).

O original é feito com couve Portuguesa, cortada muito fina, e leva rodelas de chouriço Português

(não confundir com chourizo, estilo mexicano, que às vezes encontro à venda no supermercado).

Portuguese chouriço tastes, smells and even looks totally different.

O chouriço Português sabe e cheira totalmente diferente, até o aspecto é diferente.

But alas, my husband was a meat eater,

and just to please him

I would buy some pepperoni or chorizo that I would add to his soup bowl

(not for me, thank you very much).

Mas então, o meu marido comia carne e só para lhe agradar eu comprava chorizo ou pepperoni para pôr na sopa dele (mas não para mim, muito obrigada).

Now that I made that point out, let's get to the recipe.

Agora que tornei este ponto claro, vamos à receita.

For the ingredients, you'll need:

Para os ingredientes, vai precisar:

- 6 to 8 medium potatoes

- de 6 a 8 batatas médias

- 1 big onion

- 1 cebola grande

- 2 or 3 cloves of garlic

- 2 ou 3 dentes de alho

- 4 or 5 medium turnip roots

- 4 ou 5 cabeças de nabo médias

- 1 lb can of seasoned turnip greens

or finely shredded fresh bunch of kales

- 1 lata de 1 libra de nabiças temperadas

ou 1 molho de kales frescos cortados muito fino

- 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

- 3 colheres de sopa de azeite extra vrgem

- Portuguese chouriço, chorizo or pepperoni

- Chouriço Português, chorizo ou pepperoni

How to do it:

Como fazer:

Peel and dice potatoes, onion, garlic and turnip greens.

Descascar e cortar as batatas, a cebola, o alho e os nabos em quadrados pequenos.

Add to boiling mildly salty water in a big sauce pan.

Juntar à água a ferver, com um pouco de sal, numa panela grande.

When vegetables are truly cooked, insert an immersion blender and blend everything into a fine puree (if you don't have an immersion blender, you can use your mashed potatoes tool or a regular blender, in either case it's just a little bit more work).

Quando os vegetais estiverem bem cozidos, mergulhar uma varinha mágica e reduzir a puré

(se não tiver uma varinha mágica, pode utilizar uma trituradora vulgar ou a vara manual de esmagar as batatas para puré, em qualquer dos casos é só um pouco mais trabalhoso).

Taste and correct the salt if needed, add the greens

(either from the can or the fresh kales),

add the olive oil, and let it cook in low heat for about 30 minutes.

Prove e corrija o sal se for necessário, junte as verduras (quer seja da lata ou os kales frescos), junte o azeite, e deixe cozer em lume brando cerca de 30 minutos.

And that's it.

E pronto.

This is the kind of soup it tastes much better if you let it sit for a couple of hours before serving.

Este é o tipo de sopa que sabe melhor se ficar na panela por um par de horas antes de ser servida.

When you serve it, and if you like it, then add a couple slices

of Portuguese chouriço

(OK, OK, if you can't find it, you may use chorizo or peperoni,

but trust me, it won't be exactly the same).

Quando servir a sopa e se gostar, ponha umas rodelas de chouriço Português no topo (está bem, está bem, se não conseguir encontrar, pode utilizar chorizo ou pepperoni, mas digo-lhe já que não é a mesma coisa).

Hayride at Cades Cove

I've had a most enjoyabe day, last saturday.

Invited by my sister-in-law and familly (J's sister),

I went to Cades Cove for a hayride.

For those of you who don't know, Cades Cove is an area in the wilderness of the Smokies (aka the Great Smoky Mountains),

once chosen by European settlers to hunt and live.

Slowly and with the passing of the owners the Great Smoky Mountains National Park ended up by buying all the land in Cades Cove and that now is part of the National Park.

The ride

(with us sitting on the hay on a huge trailer pulled by a truck)

is guided, and we can see all the old cabins and churchs that once were inhabitated by those Europeans who once chosed Cades Cove as home.

Park Rangers are all over the place,

directing traffic as when wild life crosses the road

and helping with whatever tourists need help with.

Also, and with a bit of luck, one can also see wildlife.

And so we did.

Some deer crossing near a cabin

to go from one side of the florest to the other (not bucks, only does),

squirells, a fox,

some wild turkeys, and... a black bear!

Alas! The bear was too far away for my camera to be able to get a got shot

(I really do need to get me a new better camera!),

but still... the park ranger told me the bear had just across the road

minutes before and was now just roaming under a huge tree... and there it was!

I was really trilled!, as you can imagine.

Plus, a vast majority of my photos are of the trees and the colors... absolutely amazing!

In some of them you can see the silhouette of the Smokies.

It was indeed a very pretty and perfect autumn day!

Below you can see some of the photos I took.

I hope you'll enjoy it and that may give you a taste of what I experienced.

No sábado passado tive um óptimo dia! Fui com a minha cunhada
(a irmã do J) e outros familiares a Cades Cove, e depois fomos num passeio num atrelado em cima do feno.

Para aqueles que não sabem, Cades Cove é uma área selvagem integrada nas Smokies

(isto é, nas Great Smoky Mountains),

que antigos colonos Europeus tinham escolhido háa muitos anos atrás como local para caçar e viver.

Gradualmente e à medida que os donos das terras iam morrendo,

o Parque Nacional das Great Smoky Mountains

comprou as terras de Cades Cove que agora fazem parte do parque nacional.

O passeio (com as pessoas sentadas em cima do feno num enorme atrelado puxado por uma carrinha)

é guiado (o condutor é o guia turístico)

e podem-se ver as cabanas e as igrejas

desses antigos colonos europeus que viveram em Cades Cove.

Há guardas florestais por todo o lado,

dirigindo o tráfico em alturas como quando os animais selvagens atravessam a estrada

e ajudando os turistas sempre que alguém tem necessidade de ajuda.

E com um pouco de sorte também se podem ver animais selvagens.

E foi o que aconteceu.

Consegui ver alguns veados

que atravessavam em frente duma cabana para ir dum lado para o outro da floresta

(apenas fêmeas, não vi nenhum macho),

esquilos, uma raposa, alguns perús selvagens, e... um urso preto!

Alas! O urso estava bastante longe

e a minha camera não tem alcance suficiente para conseguir uma foto nítida

(tenho mesmo de comprar uma boa camera!),

mas ainda assim... a guarda florestal disse-me

que o urso tinha acabado de atravessar a estrada uns minutos antes

e que agora estava a comer erva debaixo duma grande árvore... e lá estava ele!

Eu estava tão entusiasmada!, como vocês podem imaginar.

De qualquer modo, a grande maioria das minhas fotos são de árvores, e as cores... são fantásticas!Nalgumas pode-se ver a silhueta das Smokies.

Estava de facto um perfeito e belo dia de Outono!

Em baixo podem ver algumas das fotos que tirei.

Espero que gostem e que tenham ficado com um gostinho daquilo que eu vivenciei.

Foi uma experiência fantástica!

Halloween cards

Lately I get the feeling that time's just flying by... really quickly!

Ultimamente tenho a sensação de que o tempo passa a correr... e extremamente depressa!

Where we are,

the first week of October,

the first chilly mornings, the yard lawn that slowly goes into dormant...

E aqui estamos, na primeira semana de Outubro, com as primeiras manhãs muito frescas, a relva do quintal que devagarinho começa a adormecer...

As for me and as for the last couple of weeks or so,

I've been quite immersed in my scrapbooking, stamping, and card making.

Quanto a mim tenho estado submersa durante as últimas semanas

com os albúns de recortes, a estampagem e a fazer cartões.

I keep learning new techniques, how to's,

getting more new tools and supplies... and having a real good time!

Continuo a aprender novas técnicas, how to's (modos de fazer), a adquirir mais ferramentas e materiais novos... e a passar momentos agradáveis.

This last one is my first weasel-card,

really easy to make,

Paper lunch bag scrapbook

For the last couple weeks

I've been doing mostly nothing but... re-discovering scrapbooking.

Nas últimas semanas não tenho feito praticamente mais nada a não ser... redescobrir como fazer albúns de recortes.

I'd been making photo albums and digital scrapbooking for quite a while,

but now... my stamp collection is growing very fast,

as are my scrapbooking tools and papers and inks and ink pads

and chalk pencils and gel pens and markers and... Wow!!!

I'm totally addicted to it!

Desde há bastante tempo que faço albúns de fotografias e albúns de recortes digitais,

mas agora... a minha colecção de carimbos está a crescer muito rapidamente,

bem como os materiais específicos para fazer albúns

e os papéis especiais e as tintas e as almofadas de carimbos

e os lápis de giz e as canetas de gel e as canetas de feltro e...Wow!!!

Estou completamente viciada!

Felt key chains, card making and a tiered skirt

A extremely sad anniversary

and a trip to Gatlinburg fulfilled my past weekend.

On the road to visit the Norton Apparel and Jewelry Show in Gatlinburg,

me and my sister-in-law saw this.
A comemoração de uma data extremamente triste
e uma viagem a Gatlinburg preencheram o meu último fim-de-semana.
A caminho de irmos ver a exposição de roupa e joalheria no Norton Show em Gatlinburg,
eu e a minha cunhada vimos isto.

Pretty cool, huh?,

it was just standing there and looking at us,

but by the time I got my cam out

it was already going back into the woods.
Muito giro, não acham? Estava ali parado a olhar para nós,
mas quando finalmente eu tinha a câmera preparada,
já se estava a dirigir de volta para o bosque.

Anyway,
I had a good time at the show and bought a few little things.
I love the new fashion trend
(reminds me of the sixties and the hippie style)
but alas!,

these are rough economic times!

De qualquer modo,
passei uns momentos agradáveis na exibição e comprei algumas coisitas.
Gosto muito do novo estilo e tendências da moda agora

(faz-me lembrar os anos sessenta e o estilo hippie)
mas enfim!,
estamos a atravessar uns maus momentos a nível económico!

So, in the back of my mind
I was already making plans about

a certain type of material I had bought years ago...

When I came back home, I started sewing... and made a 4 tiered skirt.
And this is how it looked like after finished.

I love it!

And I'm already thinking about making another one,
from a different material.
Gosto muito da saia!
E já estou a pensar fazer outra noutro tipo de tecido.

Also, I've been playing around with my stamps
and finished a few cards.

(oh! oh!, in Gatlinburg, I went to a scrap booking superstore!

OMG! I'm totally rendered to this new stamping hobby).
Também tenho brincado com os meus carimbos e terminei alguns postais (oh!oh! em Gatlinburg fui a uma super loja de materiais

para a construção de albúns, postais, carimbos, estampagem...!
É espectacular!
Estou completamente subjugada por este novo hobbie da estampagem com carimbos).

Changing gears...

felt is one of the materials I really love to work with,

so I kinda put together a mix of felt penny rugs circles and key chains,

and this was the result.
Mudando de assunto...
feltro e um dos materiais com que mais gosto de trabalhar,
por isso como que misturei os círculos
dos penny rugs com porta-chaves,
e o resultado foi este.

A couple days ago

my sister message me:

" is everything OK?, you haven't been posting in a while..."

Há alguns dias atrás a minha irmã enviou-me uma mensagem:

"está tudo bem?, não tens publicado nada ultimamente...".
The truth of the matter is

I've been kinda busy,

keeping on several projects at the same time,

and lately

almost obsessively pursuant my new addition: stamping!
A verdade éque tenho andado um pouco ocupada com vários projectos ao mesmo tempo, e ultimamente tenho andado um pouco obsecada com um novo vício: estampagem com carimbos!

For quite a while

I've been wanting to learn and know more

about stamping,

altered art,

ATC (Artist Trading Cards),

card making...
Já há algum tempo que tenho querido aprender e saber mais acerca de
estampagem com carimbos, arte alterada, ATC (cartas para troca entre artistas), fazer cartões...
Between surfing the net and watching videos,
reading articles, finding sites related to, and experimenting...
... I've been really busy.
Entre surfar a net e ver videos, ler artigos, encontrar sites relacionados e experimentando...
... tenho estado bastante ocupada!
So, little by little, I've been acquiring some stamps,

some ink and pads, scrap booking goodies...

... but I certainly can't afford to buy many at a time.

Aos poucos tenho adquirido alguns carimbos,

tinta e tinteiros, materiais para scrapbooking (fazer albúns) ...

... mas realmente não posso comprar muitos ao mesmo tempo.

A few days ago I got a very nice break while shopping at Big Lots.

For a very good price

I got a bunch of clear stamps, acrylic blocks and dies.

Há alguns dias quando fui às compras ao Big Lots

(cadeia de lojas que vendem produtos mais baratos, resultantes de falência de lojas)

encontrei óptimos preços e comprei uma data de carimbos transparentes, blocos acrílicos e tintas.

Starting with ATC's (Artist Trading Cards),

let me tell you what I learned so far: it's a form of altered art,

usually made out of card stock,

measuring 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches (this is a must),

you can use any medium you'd like for embellishments,

and the rest is up to your imagination.

Also, the purpose of ATC making is to be traded amongst artists.

Começando com os ATC (cartas para troca entre artistas),

deixem-me dizer-vos o que aprendi até agora:

é uma forma de arte alterada, geralmente feita a partir de cartolina,

medindo cerca de 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 polegadas (cerca de 6,5 x 9 cm, e estas medidas são obrigatórias),

para os enfeites pode-se utilizar qualquer tipo de medium,

e o resto é deixado à imaginação pessoal.
O objectivo dos ATC é a sua troca entre artistas.

So far, I've made three, and I had just the perfect box to store them!

Fiz três cartas até agora, e até tinha a caixa perfeita para as guardar!

I also made some posters, intended to become wall art after framed.

I laminated some of them, like I said, I'm still experimenting.

Fiz alguns posters, a pensar transformá-los em arte de parede para pendurar, depois de os emoldurar. Laminei alguns, mas como já disse ainda estou na fase de experimentação.

After laminating those posters, got another idea

and made a bunch of bookmarks.

I've used a stamp with a cute saying.

Depois de laminar os posters, tive a ideia de fazer e laminar marcadores para livros.

Usei um carimbo com um texto engraçado.

Also made another bunch later intended for card making,

I'll show you the final product after they're done.

Fiz mais uma data de ensaios a pensar transformá-los mais tarde em cartões.

Quando os acabar eu mostro-vos.

Because I'm still initiating my stamps collection,

my themes are still kind repetitive... tough I already have my eye on a bunch more acrylic/clear stamps with phrases, sentiments, backgrounds

(I find the clear stamps really easy to use and store and also cheaper than the rubber mounted).

Porque ainda estou no início da minha collecção, os meus temas são algo repetitivos... embora já tenha em vista adquirir mais carimbos de acrílico transparentes com frases e expressões, sentimentos e backgrounds (penso que os carimbos transparentes são não só bastante fáceis de usar e guardar como também muito mais baratos que os de borracha).

I do think it can be a really expensive hobby/craft making

but sure is a very pleasant, relaxing and creative one!

because it truly comes to my mind every time

I choose what rings to put on every morning...

See... I do have a thing for rings... and lots of them!

And as if I didn't had enough,

How to make quick grape jelly

A couple days ago
while walking

through my yard next to the grape vines

I found out I still had some left

(usually the birds get everything before they are even ripe).

So I went ahead and harvest what was left of it.

Há uns dias atrás estava no quintal e quando passei junto das vinhas descobri que ainda tinha algumas uvas
(normalmente os pássaros comem os bagos todos mesmo antes de amadurecerem). Por isso decidi colher os que restavam.
Too sour to eat, I decided to make some grape jelly.

I've sorted them out, washed and weighted.
Como eram muito amargas para comer, decidi fazer geleia de uvas.
Tirei as uvas dos cachos, lavei-as e pesei-as.

On a big sauce pan,
I've mixed the grapes with the same sugar weight
(on my case, 5 pounds of each).
Numa panela grande, misturei as uvas com o mesmo peso em açúcar
(no meu caso cerca de 5 libras cada, ou seja, 2,5 quilos).

Stired well, bringing it to a boil,
and let it simmer for about 2 hours,
till it had a good jelly consistency.
Misturei bem até levantar fervura
e deixei ferver em lume brando por cerca de 2 horas, até ganhar consistência de geleia.

Removed from heat and strained it through cheese cloth and a strainer.
Retirei do lume e coei através de um coador forrado com gaze.

Poured into prepared jars, and labeled it.
Enchi os frascos, previamente preparados, com a geleia, e colei os rótulos.

Mmmmm... doesn't it look pretty?
Mmmmm... não é tão bonita?

East Tennessee weather

This afternoon
we had a severe thunder storm,
with torrential rain, hail, thunder and wind,
but everything lasted for less than 10 minutes... and then the sun came back and everything quieted.

I had enough time to get my camera and shoot this video.

Easy Backpack tutorial

Everybody seems to love

this so easy to make backpacks nowadays...

I've made quite a few myself,

and decided to share with you all

a very easy tutorial of this lined backpack.

Hoje em dia toda a gente parece gostar destas mochilas

que são tão fáceis de fazer...
Tenho feito bastantes e por isso decidi partilhar com vocês

um tutorial, ou passso-a-passo, muito fácil para esta mochila, que é forrada.

This is what you' ll need:
Vao precisar de:

17" x 15" rectangle from the main or outside print fabric
1 rectângulo de 45cm x 40cm de tecido para a parte de fora
1 17" x 15" rectangle from the lining fabric
1 rectângulo de 45cm x 40cm de tecido para o forro
4 yards cotton cord
4 metros de cordão de algodão
2 eyelets
2 ilhoses

Start by pinning together the outside fabric and the lining fabric,

wrong sides together (right sides to the outside).
Comece por colocar o tecido exterior em cima do forro (o lado do direito para fora) e prenda com alfinetes (os lados do direito ficam virados para fora).

Serge the long sides first
(or just zigzag on the sewing machine),
and then the small sides.
It gives it a nice and clean finish.
Com a serger (máquina de costura overloque) cosa os lados compridos primeiro
(ou então faça um ponto de zigzag com a máquina de costura),
e depois então os lados mais pequenos.
Desta forma ficará com um acabamento limpo e bonito.

Once all the four sides are serge together,

mark a 3/4' fold along the long sides.
Depois de unir os quatro lados do tecido exterior ao forro com a serger,
marque uma dobra de cerca de 2cm ao longo dos lados mais compridos.

Zigzag it with matching color threat.

Cosa em zigzag com linha da mesma cor ou que coordene com o tecido.

When both long sides fold have been zigzagged,

mark a 2" fold along the small sides.

Quando tiver acabado de coser em zigzag a dobra nos lados mais compridos,
faça uma dobra de 5cm ao longo dos lados mais pequenos.

Zigzag in place.

Cosa com ponto de zigzag.

Once done, go back and backstitch (straight stitching) the folds four corners a couple of times,
at the beginning and ending of the overlap fold
(this where the cord will go, so it should be reinforced).
Quando tiver terminado, cosa com ponto corrido direito os cantos das dobras
para trás e para a frente umas poucas de vezes
para evitar que o ponto desmanche
(é aqui que o cordão irá passar, daí a necessidade de ser reforçado).

Now fold together the rectangle by the middle, outside fabric out,

Agora dobre o rectângulo ao meio, com o tecido exterior virado para fora,

aligning short sides together, and pin along long sides.
alinhando os lados mais curtos juntos, e prenda com alfinetes ao longo dos lados compridos.

Run a straight stitch trough, stopping at the backing stitch you've done previously, where the openings for the cord are.
Cosa com um ponto corrido a direito, parando de coser
antes do ponto de reforço anteriormente feito,
onde estão as aberturas para passar o cordão.
After stitching both long sides,
reinforce with a zigzag stitching over the straight stitching on both long sides
(don't forget you'll have to stop before the opening).
Depois de coser ambos os lados compridos com um ponto corrido,
reforce com um um ponto de zigzag por cima do ponto corrido
(não esquecendo que tem de parar antes da abertura para o cordão).
Now it's time to apply the eyelets,
at the bottom both corners of the backpack.

Agora é a altura de aplicar as ilhoses,
nos cantos da parte de baixo da mochila.

Follow the instructions of the package for applying the eyelets.

Siga as instruções da embalagem para aplicar as ilhoses.
So now the last thing left is to run the cotton cord

trough the opening fold and the eyelets
to form the backpack handles.
A última coisa que falta agora
é passar o cordão de algodão
pela bainha da abertura e pelas ilhoses
para formar as alças da mochila.
Cut in half the 4 yards of cotton cord, 2 yards for each side.

Corte ao meio os 4 metros do cordão, 2 metros para cada um dos lados.
Attach a safety pin to one edge of one cord.

Pass it trough the right opening of the fold,
and continue trough the other opening.

Prenda um alfinete de ama a um dos lados do cordão.
Passe-o pela abertura do lado direito da bainha,
e continue pela abertura do outro lado.

You'll have two edges of the cord hanging from the right side of the backpack.

Ficará com duas pontas do cordão penduradas do lado direito da mochila.

Pass one of the ends trough the eyelet and tie a knot with both ends.

Passe uma das pontas pela ilhós e ate as duas pontas com um nó .

Follow the same steps for the left side.

And you're done.

Siga os mesmos passos para o lado esquerdo da mochila.
E está pronta.

Pretty easy uh?

Muito fácil, não é ?
Of course, you could omit the lining,

and the finish product would be much lighter then.
I like it with the lining, makes it more sturdy to support everything
I usually carry around.
Claro, pode optar por não por forro, e o produto final será mais fino e leve.
Eu gosto de pôr o forro, porque proporciona um acabamento mais estruturado para carregar tudo o que eu geralmente ponho na mochila.

Hot Spicy Red Pepper Jam

This year I didn't had a (vegetable) garden

and didn't took care

of the grapes or the berries or nothing.

Este ano não fiz horta e nem sequer cuidei das uvas nem das amoras nem nada.

Not really being lazy, just lacking the appetite... (without J sometimes I do struggle a bit

to make sense out of things).

Não é realmente uma questão de preguiça...(sem o J por vezes tenho dificuldade em dar um sentido as coisas).
But what I meant to tell you about today is I've decided to make jam.

Mas do que pretendo falar-vos hoje é acerca da minha decisão de fazer compota.

I've had made strawberry jam, blackberry jam, tomato jam, cantaloupe jam...

and I wanted something new and different.

Já tinha feito compota antes, compota de morangos,
compota de amoras, doce de tomate, compota de meloa... e queria fazer algo novo e diferente.

After a quick research on the net

I found some red pepper jam recipes.

Gosh! The pics I saw did look gorgeous!

So red and bright!

Após uma pesquisa rápida na net
encontrei algumas receitas de pimento encarnado,
com fotografias esplêndidas, tão vermelhas e brilhantes!
After reading a few, I kinda decided on my own version,

adapting quantities and ingredients.

This is what I came about:

Depois de ler algumas das receitas, fiz a minha própria versão,
adaptando quantidades e ingredientes.
Eis como fiz:

4 red peppers
4 pimentos encarnados
1 cup white wine vinegar
1 chávena de vinagre de vinho branco
3 cups sugar
3 chávenas de açúcar
1 Tbs salt
1 colher de sopa de sal
1 Tbs spoon butter
1 colher de sopa de manteiga

Wash peppers and remove seeds.

Lavar os pimentos e limpar das sementes.

Cut it in small pieces or use a food processor (in my case).

In a large saucepan mix together the peppers, vinegar, salt and sugar.

Add the butter (to prevent the formation of foam).

Cortar os pimentos em pedacinhos pequeninos ou usar um processador (como no meu caso).

Numa panela grande misturar os pimentos com o vinagre, o sal e o açúcar.

Juntar a manteiga (evita a formação de espuma).

Stirring since in a while, let it simmer for about an hour

or till it gets a good jam consistency.
Mexer de vez em quando e deixar ferver por cerca de 1 hora,
ou até atingir a consistência de compota.
OK, in my case I did add a few dried hot pepper flakes.

Only a little itsy bitsy, maybe 1/8 teaspoon (it's enough, believe me!).

OK, no meu caso eu juntei uns pedacinhos de piri-piri seco.
Apenas um bocadinho pequenino, talvez 1/8 de uma colher de sobremesa (é mais do que suficiente!).Meanwhile, have your jars prepared for canning,

in boiling water for at least 10 minutes.

Entretanto tenha os frascos prontos para encher,

fervendo-os pelo menos durante 10 minutos.

Fill the jars, let it cool, stick the labels... et voila!

Hot Spicy Red Pepper Jam!

Let me tell you: it's a bit spicy, but delicious with pork loin!

Encha os frascos, deixe arrefecer, cole os rótulos

... e pronto!

Compota Picante de Pimentos Encarnados!

Deixem que vos diga: é um bocadinho picante, mas deliciosa com lombo de porco!

I got five small jars.

The Middle Ages Inspiration

It's not a surprise for those who know me

my love for all Medieval stuff.

A couple weeks ago I was skypeing with one of my friends in Portugal and she told me she had been at Óbidos, a Portuguese medieval city.

Para aqueles que me conhecem

não é surpresa o meu gosto por coisas medievais.

Há uns tempos atrás quando falava com uma amiga no Skype

(olá Irene!)

ela disse-me que tinha ido a Óbidos, uma cidade medieval Portuguesa.

And she also told me that for most of the month of July they have a Medieval Fair there,

which she was lucky to attend.

Também me disse que durante a maior parte do mês de Julho acontece em Óbidos uma Feira Medieval, a que ela assistiu.

I've been in Óbidos in several different occasions

but was never able to see the Medieval Fair.

Estive em Óbidos em diversas ocasiões mas nunca vi a Feira Medieval.

So I went online to YouTube
and found some nice videos of this year event.
Por isso liguei-me online, fui ao YouTube e encontrei vários
videos do evento deste ano.
This one is just one of many I've found,
and I think illustrates well the spirit of those times.
Este é apenas um dos muitos que encontrei e julgo que ilustra bem o espírito desses tempos.

It brings me back many memories and homesickness,

but hopefully shortly I'll be able to go back and visit with everybody.

Traz-me de volta muitas memórias e saudades
mas espero que em breve possa lá voltar e visitar toda a gente.
Anyway, if I'm telling you all this is because

(maybe inspired for these events in Óbidos)

I made some medieval like items.

De qualquer modo, se vos estou a contar isto é porque

(talvez inspirada por estes acontecimentos em Óbidos)

fiz algumas coisas medievais.

Don't they look like something

a princess or a lady of the court would wear...?

Nao parecem algo que uma princesa ou dama da corte pudesse usar...?

Fingerless lilac gloves, some ruffled lace and a yo-yo application.

Luvas lilazes sem dedos, com renda de folhos e uma aplicação de yo-yo.

Also a delicate sheer green embroidered scarf,

lined with a very soft pink knit.

Também fiz uma écharpe verde transparente e com bordados,

forrada com uma malha cor de rosa muito fofa.

And last but not least,

a hair piece

which really makes me think of princesses and Middle Ages...

(I got the inspiration for the ribbons from a Brazilian craft site).

E por último uma peça para o cabelo que realmente me faz lembrar de princesas e da Idade Média...

(para as fitas inspirei-me num site de artesanato Brasileiro).

What do you think?, was I able to capture some of the Medieval spirit with these creations...?

I don't know if I did or not, but I did enjoy making them!

I went to a thrifty store.

Well, this time I found a vintage like pitcher that caught my eye.
Bom, desta vez encontrei um jarro antigo que me encheu o olho.

With some flowers from my garden

and displayed on top of my hexagon table runner,

it does make an impression, don't you think?

Com algumas flores colhidas no meu jardim

e colocado sobre o meu chemin de hexágonos,

faz sensação, não acham?

More flower fairies (and a little bit of a reorganization)

As promised earlier,

here's the heads up on what I've been making lately.

About a couple weeks ago

I reorganized my craft room.

Conforme o prometido,

aqui esta o relato do que tenho feito ultimamente.

Ha duas semanas atras reorganizei a minha sala de trabalho.

Set up cabinets, shelves and tables on a different disposition,

and gained a bunch more space

(ahah till it gets all cluttered again).

Mudei os armarios, as prateleiras e as mesas noutra posicao

e ganhei montes de espaco

(ahah ate que fique uma bagunca de novo).

Anyway, it does look a lot better now,

and I can move around much better too.

I love to look at these shelves!

De qualquer modo tem muito melhor aspecto agora

e tambem me posso mexer mais a vontade.

Gosto muito destas prateleiras!

The pot where they live for now is a recycled plastic container,

dressed up with a crochet cover

and embellished up with yo-yo's, ribbons and crystals.

I have to tell you: the flower fairies just LOOOVE it there!

O vaso onde as fadas vivem por agora e uma embalagem de plastico reciclada,

vestida com uma cobertura de crochet e enfeitada com yo-yo's, fitas e cristais.

Tenho de vos dizer: as fadas-flores ADOORAM viver ali!

and hang on in my flower pots,

as you can witness from these pictures...

Pooh-Pooh Diaries

It has been more than two weeks since my last posting, I know...

Ja passaram mais de duas semanas desde que escrevi neste blog...

The truth is things have been kinda busy around here,

but I'm planning to give you all a heads up on another post later today.

But for this specific post

I mainly wanted to tell you about Pooh-Pooh, my cat.

A verdade e que tenho andado um pouco ocupada,

mas mais logo estou a planear por-vos ao corrente do que tenho feito.

Por agora quero falar-vos um pouco acerca da minha gata Pooh-Pooh.

She was spayed yesterday,

and she also had the rabies shot and a microchip implant.

Ela foi "arranjada" ontem,

e tambem levou a vacina contra a raiva e o implante do microchip.

Thus she's not feeling very good today.

She has been laying in that chair for hours now...

... and does not want to be touched.

She did eat late last night tough...

I'm still waiting a little bit longer before I call the vet...

she's not supposed to be horsing around after surgery anyway

(or should I say "catting around"?)...

Por isso hoje nao se esta a sentir muito bem.

Esta deitada naquela cadeira faz horas e nao quer que eu lhe mexa ou faca festas.

Mas ontem a noite comeu um bocadito...

Ainda vou esperar um pouco mais antes de telefonar ao veterinario,

para ver como as coisas correm... de qualquer modo no hospital veterinario

disseram que ela devia descansar

e nao andar a pular e saltar em cima da mobilia e dos sofas como habitualmente faz.

I didn't go to work today, so I can keep an eye on her

(I've been working at Mother's Day Out

at our local church for the summer time).

Hoje nao fui trabalhar,

para poder vigia-la durante o dia

(tenho estado a trabalhar durante estes meses de Verao

no "Dia de Folga das Maes",

um centro de dia infantil que pertence a igreja local).

I got (rescued) Pooh-Pooh after J passed away last August

and she has been my best friend, my baby, my companion since then.

I'm so grateful I have her!

She's definitely a family member as I know for sure so many of you understand.

Tenho a Pooh-Pooh

(resgatei-a da rua quando a mae gata a abandonou)

desde a morte do J em Agosto do ano passado,

e ela tem sido uma grande amiga,

faz-me muita companhia desde entao, e e como se fosse no meu bebe.

Estou muito grata por a ter comigo!

E definitivamente como um membro da familia,

e tenho a certeza que muitas de voces compreendem o que quero dizer.

Fairies, decoupage and felt flowers

Once upon a time...

there was a small clay pot...

Era uma vez...

um vaso pequenino feito de argila...

I could start this blog post like this,

wondering about fairies, flowers and pretty clay pots...

Eu poderia comecar bloggando desta maneira

divagando acerca de fadas, flores e vasinhos bonitos...

But the truth is

this is a post about how I made a pretty visual ensemble

to add to my fairyland type of environment

which I like so much.

Mas a verdade e que este post

e acerca duma composicao que eu criei

e que se integra tao bem

na minha decoracao/coleccao de contos de fada

de que gosto tanto.

But first to what comes first: how did I made the fairy.

Mas comecando pelo principio: como e que eu fiz a fada.

Quite a while ago

I had found a tutorial about making these pretty fairies

out of a wooden bead, a plastic flower and pipe cleaners.

Aqui ha algum tempo atras

encontrei um tutorial (ou PAP) que ensinava a fazer estas fadas

a partir de uma conta de madeira,

uma flor de plastico e limpa cachimbos.

I made then a pretty mobile that I hung up in J's room

(aka my craft room now).

Nessa altura eu construi um mobile muito bonito

que pendurei no quarto do J

e que e agora a minha sala de trabalho.

I'm sorry I can't found that tutorial anymore

but I did found another eHow article

if you'd be interested how to make the fairy.

Tenho pena de ja nao conseguir encontrar esse tutorial,

mas se estiverem interessadas,

encontrei um outro artigo no eHow que ensina a fazer a fada.

Anyhow... as I was saying... I had a small clay pot...

which I've decided to paint and to aplly some decoupage.

This is how it came about after it was done.

De qualquer modo, como eu estava a dizer... eu tinha um vaso pequenino...

que decidi pintar e decorar com decoupage.

Depois de pronto ficou assim.

First I've spray paint the pot white.

Primeiro pintei o vaso de branco com tinta em spray.

After it dried and using the decoupage technique

I've glued on

some pretty flowers and stars.

Depois de seco utilizei a tecnica da decoupage

para aplicar flores e estrelas

Applied glossy Mod Podge allover the pot to seal and finish it.

Apliquei Mod Podge brilhante em todo o vaso, que funciona como acabamento final.

For the felt flowers I followed this very nice tutorial.

Para fazer as flores em feltro

segui as instrucoes neste tutorial.

After inserting the fairy in the composition

I've fabric glitter sprayed everything.

And this is how it looks like.

Depois de fazer a fada e a colocar na composicao,

utilizei glitter em spray para tecido em todo o lado.

E ficou assim.

And my little fairy sure lets my imagination fly away over her wings!

Tribute

Eleven years ago and after marrying J

we moved

from Europe (Portugal) to Tennessee

to build a new live together.

Ha onze anos atras e depois de ter casado com o J

mudamo-nos de Portugal para o Tennessee

para construir una nova vida em conjunto.

My husband was born, raised and died here in Tennessee.

Tough our new life together didn't last for long, was a very happy one.
O meu marido nasceu, foi criado e morreu aqui no Tennessee.

A nossa vida em conjunto nao durou muito, mas foi muito feliz.
And as once more we commemorate the fourth of July,

I can't stop thinking about my husband and about my dad.

E uma vez mais ao comemorar o quatro de Julho,

nao consigo deixar de pensar no meu marido e no meu pai.

My husband was a veteran, and had military funeral honors.

O meu marido era um veterano e teve honras militares funebres.

Tough from an European country, my dad was a veteran also.

He also had military funeral honors.

And he was born on the fourth of July.
Embora dum pais europeu, o meu pai tambem era um veterano
e tambem teve honras militares funebres.
E o meu pai nasceu no dia quatro de Julho.
So today as I pay tribute to the USA, to my husband and to my father,

I also want to pay tribute to all the beloved husbands and fathers

allover the world and who no longer are with us.

Por isso hoje o meu tributo aos Estados Unidos da America,

ao meu marido e ao meu pai.

Tambem quero prestar tributo a todos os maridos e pais

que foram amados e que ja nao estao connosco hoje.

Hexagon Pool Tote

It's officially summer time.

E oficialente tempo de Verao.

And it has been so hot lately

that I've decided to use my grandson's pool

as a cool spa

and use it myself on these hot afternoons.

Tem estado tao quente ultimamente

ue decidi usar a piscina do meu neto

como um spa refrescante

nestas tardes tao quentes.

(SPA nao tem traducao literal

mas tem a ver com terapia hidraulica, hidromassagem...

pesquisei e descobri que o termo SPA se aplica

a uma cidade belga cujo nome medieval em latim era Aquae Spadanae.)

And to make it more serious,

I made me a pool bag,

E para me tomar a serio

fiz um saco de piscina,

to carry my towels and my sunscreen

up to the deck where the pool is.

para levar as toalhas e o protector solar

para a varanda onde esta a piscina.

I've machine applique a flower hexagon on a purple square,

and then sewn three squares

to form a row of three.

Apliquei a maquina uma flor feita com hexagonos num quadrado roxo

e depois cosi um quadrado ao outro

para formar uma fila de tres quadrados.

With four rows of purple squares with applique flower hexagons

I was able to put together

a real nice pool tote,

don't you think?

Com quatro filas de quadrados roxos

Pooh-Pooh Diaries

Last Monday I had to take my cat Pooh-Pooh to the vet.

I'm feeling much reassured now, but it has been a long crazy week.

She has been having gastrointestinal problems,

missing the litter box and having accidents all over the place...

Between the constant cleaning and caring for her

didn't had much time left.

She is getting better now

and hopefully soon will be able to play everywhere as usual.

I hope that both of us will be back to our normal routines very soon.

Till then, I'll be seing you!

Na passada segunda feira tive de levar a minha gata Pooh-Pooh ao veterinario.

Embora esteja mais descansada agora, tem sido uma semana comprida e maluca.

Ela tem estado com problemas gastrointestinais e tem tido acidentes por todo o lado...

Entre o limpar constantemente e tratar dela

nao tenho tido tempo de sobra.

Mas agora ela parece estar melhor

e esperemos que em breve possa voltar a brincar por toda a casa.

Esperemos tambem que em breve tanto ela como eu possamos voltar as nossas rotinas habituais.
